The Shining Night and the Southern Cross Messenger (輝く夜と彼方(サザンクロス)からの使者, Kagayaku Yoru to Kanata (Sazankurosu) kara no Shisha^?) is the first episode of the fourth season of the Kaitou Joker anime. It is the fortieth episode of the overall series and was broadcasted on October 3, 2016.

Summary

Joker and Hachi continue to discover the legendary treasure from last season, but not even the Guidance Stones and the best research facilities can give the next clue. Then, the stones started to glow along in resonance with the mysterious red gem, the Red Comet, in a Russian laboratory. Knowing where the next clue is, Joker targets the treasure with Phoenix as they confront the head researcher, Dr. Neo.

• Dr. Neo, another Devil Fang agent is introduced.
• Hosshii eats the Red Comet, and lays a golden egg that shows an image of Phoenix's home planet.

Tricks Introduced

• Joker uses Phoenix's arrow to bounce off of the cards he had placed in order to destroy the power source of the lab.

Trivia

• The scene where Akai bumps into Joker and Hachi's infiltration is in reference to the previous season's first episode.
• Some of Dr. Neo's past is revealed. He apparently saw Phoenix's spaceship but everyone made fun of him and didn't believe him.
• Dr. Neo is revealed to be bald which becomes a running gag in the series.
